What movies are you watching when you're sick?

I always try to watch a lot of movies that I haven't seen before. You know all these piles of unwatched dvds that's standing everywhere? Well, that's my plan anyway! And it always fails...

When the fever hits hard or the nose are running like hell, or the headache are bursting my head, I always pop in loooong movies. It dosen't what genre really, they just have to be long - and expensive. Sixties/seventies of course, not later or earlier. Absolutely no horror. No fantasy. Nothing that will affect your mind in some complicated way.

I good conspiracy thriller maybe. A historical drama. Robert Aldrich's Sodom and Gomorrah and Edgar G. Ulmers Hannibal is the best movies to watch when you're sick. Not to advanced, not to loud (I hate loud movies when I'm sick), but never boring.

Maybe it has to do with the editing? My eyes often can't handle quick editing when I'm ill

So if I shorten it a bit: movies over two hours from the sixties and seventies. Without to much action

Re: What movies are you watching when you're sick?

I was down with it & up with it & up & down last night, and this morning. I've been watching:

Lawn Dogs: Sam Rockwell in a John Duigan flick that bravely takes on the gated community target with Baba Yaga magic realism. Duigan's directing career gives off an increasingly creepy "exploiter of young actresses" vibe, and this one's maybe the creepiest so far. It's a messed up picture in other ways, too. I kind of liked it.

Central Park Drifter (Graveyard Shift): Canadian 80s vampire cabbie, synth & lights. Toronto pretends to be NYC, but I wasn't fooled. Lotta tits. Stripper vampire Sugar Bouche is a standout. Also features John Haslett Cuff as a dick. Director Jerry Ciccoritti went on to do a well-received tv bio of Pierre Eliot Trudeau (of X-Men). I fade in and out some, and it's no way a good movie, but I liked it a lot.

Return of the Evil Dead: the mayor sending out the little girl to look for her dad is great. I was going to suggest he do that.

Re: What movies are you watching when you're sick?

Last sickie bout (worst in years) I attempted to watch FANGS OF THE LIVING DEAD, which through my sleep-deprived/codeine-addled eyes looked like a universe I wanted to step inside of and inhabit for a while (not just because I want to be mama'd by Anita Ekberg, either!).

For the most part, though, I can't handle reading or watching anything when I'm that ill.

For me it's always Godzilla and dinosaur movies.

I've been sick for the past three days and I watched a DVD-R someone made of Godzilla vs. The Cosmic Monster from an airing with Dr. Paul Bearer from Tampa. That was pretty much perfect.

I get sick A LOT, and prefer really long films, westerns, and Larry Clarke movies. But, to second an earlier post, thrillers (preferably bad, big-budget political ones) are probably the best thing to watch.

I prefer the Epic route myself, too.

Godfather parts I & II
Lawrence of Arabia
The Dollars Trilogy

Once when I was really felled I saw Heaven's Gate. It did the trick.

When I'm sick I love watching Post-Apocalyptic films. Don't know why.

I watched World Gone Wild today and it was a fucking blast. Why and how did I pass this great little gem up when I was younger? Michael Pare and Bruce Dern rule!!

Usually just flat out Horror movies, although now that I think about it when I'm sick I listen to commentaries.

Re: What movies are you watching when you're sick?

Whenever I´m sick I usually do these babies. Perfect, fast and fun nobrainers:

Army Of One (a.k.a. Joshua Tree)
Marked For Death
Under Siege 2 - Dark Territory
Silent Trigger
The Peacekeeper
Delta Force 2 (Ramon Cota 4 eva!)
Out For Justice

And to top it off I´ll put on Body Chemistry 3 - Point Of Seduction, perhaps Burial Ground or Cannibal ferox.

Oops! Almost forgot... The Human Tornado.
ALWAYS The Human Tornado. God I love that flick.

I watched Jackson's KING KONG while laid out in the hospital and stoned on morphine. Being high didn't make the film any better.

Re: What movies are you watching when you're sick?

If I'm sick with a headache, I don't want to watch TV. Usually.

Sick without a headache, or with a mild one, I'm not too picky about what I watch from my library.

----

Last time I was REALLY sick with the flu, was maybe 4-5 years ago. I've had some bad sicknesses before, but this one was body aches, slight headache, seemed like it took much more energy to move or do anything, etc. I only felt OK when laying down on the sofa.

The morning when it kicked in, later that day my pre-order for the first season of Kojak on DVD arrived with the mail.

I made something to eat, and started with the first DVD. I laid around all day watching Kojak. Next day, horrible feeling still, I watch more Kojak. I did this for 5 days or so. I think I finished the Kojak before I felt better. The sickness lasted a little over a week, from what I recall.

Now, my mind has a slight association with words "Flu" and "Kojak"

.

Re: What movies are you watching when you're sick?

I was sick as a dog all week, and watched a stack of 70's flicks. Off the top of my head Trip with the Teacher (1975) and Bucktown (1975) were really enjoyable. Oh, and I watched Slumdog Millionaire 3 more times. I watch the same shit when I'm ill as I do when I'm ill.
