I'll probably wait until I get a blu-ray player to upgrade this one (I'm presuming they'll release it blu-ray).

The old dvds are fine, in my opinion. Although I haven't gotten around to watching part 3 yet. C'mon, I've only had the box set for two years!

Ive had the boxset since it came out and I too have not watched pt.3 either. I've actually never seen it at all.

I've watched all three via the old box set and I'm perfectly content with that... love the films and all, but unless these are *seriously* revelatory, I don't think I'll upgrade.

Aren't these the new restored prints that Vincent Pereira saw screened in a theatre? If so, I'm all over these!

Re: Godfather Restored Boxset in Sept

Wasn't there some issues with the older box set having only a 5.1 sound and no mono mix, which was the films original mix?

I'll be picking this up sometime, since the original mono mix appears to be included. Which is great, since I've been down on the stereo/5.1 mix since the beginning. They just killed the film for me.

Re: Godfather Restored Boxset in Sept

The 5.1 mix didn't bother me in the least, though I'm glad the mono soundtrack will be included - won't be enough, in itself, to get me to upgrade, though.

Re: Godfather Restored Boxset in Sept

The 5.1 mix is new, too. I e-mailed Robert Harris re: the sound after viewing the stunning restored print of THE GODFATHER back in March, and he confirmed that the restored versions were remixed due to issues with the older 5.1 mixes on the DVD versions.

Don't be a stick in the mud, Troy.
The present DVD is not right.
According to all my sources this Robert Harris restoration supervised by Coppola and Willis is seriously and significantly revelatory. This is the edition I've been waiting for.
