If the Blu Ray release is reasonably priced, I'll be all over that.

Fuck, i only bought the DVD set last year. If there are better extras, i'll get on it. I'm not upgrading for better picture on movies that were shot on inferior stock in the first place.

That's a lot of good 70's flicks you ain't gonna be buyin' in HD, then! You know, when they get around to releasing them. I do wonder if it's maybe more the changing aesthetics of the time leading the development of new, faster stocks that you're responding to. Films like DIRTY HARRY - with all its location and night shooting - maybe get a little outside of the stock's 'sweet spot' and as a result can look a little rough 'n ready. And a lot of the fading can be mitigated with digital color correction - if the people doing the timing are trustworthy! I still like the look of DIRTY HARRY's most recent master, myself. And it'll certainly respond to increased resolution. |

Re: Dirty Harry:Ultimate Collection...6/03
I'm all for the remasters on this series, the previous DVDs all used the Laserdisc beta masters, except the first one which came out twice, once bad, and once cleaned up (but still the same, original transfert).
As for the fading stock, there are lots of tricks on HD to get the original colors back, you just have to work knowing how the movie originally looked, and spend some more time.
