Ferdinando Baldi R.I.P

Just a week ago, dear italian director Ferdinando Baldi passed away, 90 years of age.

He did a whole load of movies, and co-worked with people such as Tony Anthony and Allen Klein.

In my opinion he was highly underrated, especially for his westerns. I love "Forgotten pistolero", and enjoy "Viva Django", "Texas adios" and the Anthony-westerns a lot. I also happen to be one of those who love his provocative low-budget terror in "Terror express".

Rest in peace and thank you, Ferdinando!

R.I.P. Mr. Baldi. I really enjoyed his contributions within the spaghetti western gerne especially "Blindman" which is one of my favorites. Of course it's always a sad event when such a director passes away but at least the fans can look back on his fruitful carreer and thanks to his movies he will always be remembered ! Guess i'm gonna dig out "Blindman" tonight to relive some of the good ol' times.

RIP

Of the ones i've seen by him so far, i'm not, unfortunately, particularly impressed, with two exceptions: Viva Django, and The Sicilian Connection - both being among the very best of their genres.

Re: Ferdinando Baldi R.I.P

I have only seen two of his films, TEXAS ADDIOS and TERROR EXPRESS, but I planned to check out some more of his stuff in the near future - now I got myself a kind of sad excuse to do so.

RIP, Ferdinando Baldi!

Re: Ferdinando Baldi R.I.P

Here's to a great director.

It is a pity that so little is actually known about him. Even the lengthy interview on the Blindman DVD mentions little outside of that film. I have never found anything to confirm IMDB's entry about his film made in North Korea for example. I did compile all the data I could into the biography on my website if anyone is interested.

R.I.P. Senor Baldi.

Just realized how many of spaghetti westerns of his I've seen and really enjoyed. He's become one of my favorite directors in the genre (misogyny not included).

Aside from his other memorable work, I must say that watching the aforementioned North Korean war flick, "Ten Zan - The Ultimate Mission", as it was called here, is probably the most fun I've ever had in a movie theater.

RIP, Baldi.

Does that film really exist? What is it like?

Oh, sure it does. I've actually seen bootlegs being for sale here and there, so it shouldn't be too hard to get your hands on it if you're curious.

The film itself isn't that great though I'm afraid. It's a very Bruno Mattei-ish 80s action set in all these big, empty North Korean locations. So it's mostly a curiosity, but with the right people and a few beers it's an absolute riot to watch.
