MONDO CANDIDO isn't a mondo though, it's based on the story Candide by Voltaire. still would be a great Euro cult release IMO.

and something else that popped in my mind- so many of these have been cut and editied in various formats i figured i try and warn people about cut versions out there on DVD.

the WOODHAVEN DVD of MONDO MAGIC is severely truncated- don't buy it! the Magnum VHS is uncut.

i haven't seen the discs in question, but i've been told by reliable friends that the JEF DVDs of SHOCKING ASIA 1 and 2 are edited down as well. the MAGNUM VHS have all the scenes intact.

I wonder. I'm no expert but this appears to be a Japanese made mondo film in that there are no English title translations and all the photos seem to be of a Japanese nature rather than an Italian made with all the African inserts that imdb seems to gab about. That may be a correct guess but I've alwatys assumed the latter but I really don't know. I'll ask the guy who sold it to me.

The article/interview is great and covers his whole career as well as his mondo films,i think this was the last print interview he ever did.
Btw there's also a great Nocturno dossier that came free with #23 titled 'Mondorama' which is a complete rundown of the genre including reviews, artwork etc.I used to have a copy but misplaced it

no, SWEET AND SAVAGE is an Italian film, i don't recall there being Asian footage, if there is it is minimal. here's a custom cover for it that i made to use as a cover until a real DVD company steps up to put this out.

i've got 10 or so other covers i've made for various unreleased mondos if anyone wants to see em.

I used to own the Dutch vhs of this which was missing the scenes of the guy getting his arms pulled off by a truck, from what i've read these scenes were faked anyway.

Re: Mondo movies, who watches em?

To all interested parties, The Japanese Mondo mystery is solved by my Japanese poster fanatic friend and ally. He says...

The movie is called NIHON ZANGOKU MONOGATARI (Cruel Tale Of Japan) and was released in Japan in 1963. Seems to have been the Japanese response to the success of the Jacopetti mondo movies. There were two different posters for this movie, the one you have has the superior artwork of the two.

Carry on.
