Just heard that Victim by Design is coming out soon in Italy. This great giallo from Maurizio Lucido stars the eponymous Tomas Milian. Specs, when I get them.

I noticed this on Kultvideo's forthcoming titles, and according to their info no english subs or audio..

It's coming out on March 13th on the Surf Video label so the print quality will be superb but like Magnus said no English options-only Italian with a trailer as an extra.I'm going to buy this regardless as the other titles i have on this labels Serie Z series(I Ragazzi della Roma Violenta and Milano:Il Clan dei Calabrasei)look absolutely stunning and this should be no different.

It will be released in Germany soon too. Perhaps NEW Entertainment will add a english option too for you only english speaking guys....

There will be two german editions. One with a german audio track only and the regular german cut which also appeared on foreign tapes like the greek VHS for example (you can find this DVD already at stores like "amazon.de"). The second edition will be released by "NEW Entertainment" with german, english and italian language. This version contains scenes not appearing in the italian master source. The italian DVD is announced with a running time of 94 minutes, therefore I'm afraid this is not the complete version. According to the last two italian VHS tapes there are some bits and parts missing from the current italian version (there was a longer cut many years ago). The extras of the NEW disc will include a photo gallery, maybe some excerpts of the score and liner notes, but this is not confirmed yet. More news to follow as I get them.

I have read a thread about this release in the DTM forum... and since my German is far from perfect I may be wrong, but it seems that the additional footage will end up as deleted scenes because they can't find a good enough source for making a patch version of the film.

Here are two screenshots from NEW's work in progress, the first one is the print they received from the rights holders in Italy, and the second is from another source which have scenes not included in the previous one. Can't wait for this DVD!

hi,
pleased to meet you all. i am working for the company that will release the VITTIMA DESIGNATA in Germany.
specs are as follows:
German, English, Italian (2.0 Original Mono).
there will be two Italian Audio Tracks (one with the official Music Cues, as heard in German, English and Italian Tracks; and one with the Music Cues from the legendary "cvr" Video extended Version).
the German Print is based on what i like to call the "official" uncut Version. this one was released in English Dubs and in Italy on the "Golden Video" Label. Nocturno later used that Print for their Re-Issues, but cut about 1 min of Stuff due to Print damage.

we have to use the Nocturno Master, and re-inserted the Stuff which they cut, from our German Digi-Beta Master. (which is only in 1.85, and as you can see in the above Shots, i windowboxed it back to fit into the 2.35 Frame, as this is being encoded in 16:9)

the Scenes from the "cvr" Video Print are in crappy Quality and in 1.85, too and have an annoying Logo at the bottom of the Picture. this stuff - superflous maybe but still very interesting - will be added as Bonus Material: Deleted Scenes. this amounts to 10 Snippets, some quite short, some quite long. about 4-5 Mins in total.
if all goes as planned, these Deleted Scenes will have ENGLISH Subtitles as special Treat to our Foreign Fans.

The whole Movie wil sadly NOT have English Subs, but you can enjoy the English Dub at least - and i corrected the Sound to the Original 23.976 Frames Pitch as it was originally recorded! so i am quite sure everyone will like this coming DVD as much as i love working on it to be as perfect as possible

I already have an old an quite good-looking Dutch vhs of this but I'll be happy to upgrade to dvd. This is one of those rather off-beat, unusual gialli. No flashy murders but an intriguing story and great Venetian locations. It has an atmosphere of unavoidable hoplessness throughout and benefits greatly from good performances by Clementi and Milian, and also the ravishing Katia Christine. Oh, and the song "My Shadow in the Dark" sung by Milian is really, really good. A worthy addition to any giallo lover's collection!
