BEATRICE CENCI dvd(Neo Publishing)

French genre label Neo Publishing are releasing Fulci's BEATRICE CENCI in late January in a SE with extras that include 2 half hour interviews with the late director. No word about English options yet but don't get your hopes up as all of Neo's current releases are French/Italian only.Lado's NIGHT TRAIN MURDERS is also getting the SE treatment.

Oh yeah i´m sure that Neo Publishing won´t include english subs or dub, they have all these great release yet they limit themself to the french/italian market... Oh well i´m sure another company will pick up this title since a new transfer is available now.

Great news, but it sucks that there probably won't be English subs. I can't understand why companies don't add them. I mean, it can't possibly be hard to do or even be expensive and the addition would surely open up an entire new market and ensure more sales. To me, releasing a film without English subs in this day and age is the same as releasing a film without anamorphic enhancement. It's completely and utterly senseless.

Agreed and the sad thing is that when Neo first started all their releases included English options. They've released some classic Italian crime and gialli titles in the last year and all have only had original Italian/French soundtracks and subs which is a BIG shame.

Sometimes they can't include them because it's a term of the license. From the rights owners point of view for them to include English subs/language would lessen the value of their property in a potential sale to the UK/USA for instance.

This is great; you know it's only a matter of time before the materials get licensed in North America.

about time this were released, and that NTMurders se is also most welcome, now if only someone would start releasing riccardo freda´s filmography; more infuriating than audio-subs options is the region thing IMHO

Re: BEATRICE CENCI dvd(Neo Publishing)

Well the region restriction can be bypassed easily on most DVD players with a few simple button pushes on the remote, so i doubt the region restriction is the bigger problem. I think most serious DVD collectors nowadays own a region free DVD player, since it´s almost manditory if you wanna get all the top notch releases. Hell, i´ve owned a region free DVD player since 1998 when i bought my first one and i couldn´t imagine living with a region restriction.

Now in this case we have a great movie that alot of people have been waiting for, but it´s rendered almost useless cause it doesn´t include english subs or dub, that seems like more bigger problem to me i must say. There´s no simple button pushing sequence that´s gonna create english subs all of a sudden.

This might be good news though, presumably there is a good clean remastered print avaiable. So perhaps at some point suring 2007 another company will release it on DVD. Maybe No Shame or Blue Underground are planning on releasing it. No Shame have been very tight lipped about there releases for 2007.

Hopefully someone will either release it legally or someone will make a fan subbed edition of it and DVD-r it.
Maybe Alfa Digital will release it with subs or the english dub, like they did with 7 NOTES IN BLACK.

Depends on the player. Most European players are region free, only you have to enter a code when you buy it. When DVD was new over here, if asked, they would hack it for you right there in the store.
I've never had a region specific player myself. Like Benjamin, I bought my first player in 98' and it was a cheap, region free model from Aphrey. You'll find your players code on different web pages. They'll tell you how to enter the code and so forth. If you can't find your player after looking around for a while, that ususally means it can't be hacked. It may be smart to wait it out for a little while though, as sometimes it takes some time before the codes hits the street, so to speak. I always check before I buy.

Here's a site for Sony players, just as an example:

(The examples at the top of the page are very extreme, with full hex codes and what not. I've never tried out anything quite as complex as all that. You shouldn't pay much attention to those. Instead, scroll all the way down to the last example, on the bottom of the page, and you'll see the more regular kind. The ususal ones might require you to open the disc trey and enter a 4 or 5 digit code to access a region code page, where you chose region code 9 (region free)).

Here's the link:

This and ROMA VIOLENTA would make great Alfa discs if they don't get offical English language releases.
