I'm thinking if enough people buy this release, maybe it will finally spurn Paramount into action. Hopeful, perhaps...

I don't know - I just think they don't care a damn about the film, and they're likely not going to pay much attention to this release, if indeed they even catch wind of it. I sometimes wonder if anybody there even *remembers* their involvement in the film!

Nah, I'm optimistic, too. Still, I have to wonder if the title is "known" among the folks at Paramount, or if it's simply something that has fallen through the cracks...

Marc Morris posted in another forum that Paramount do own world rights. Apparently he has tried to license it himself, among many others...

Absolutely they do. Martin Blythe over at Paramount set up a thread a few years ago at Home Theater Forum for most wanted titles and 4 Flies was on the list. He even mentioned it specifically by name to come out. Almost everything else came out on that list except Flies...Blythe hasn't been on that forum since.

Well, last I checked, Martin Blythe no longer works at Paramount; I gather he got sacked with almost everyone else under his domain when the Dreamworks personnel came in and replaced them. The current home video administration at Majestic Mountain is not the most feedback-friendly bunch, sad to say.

A Danish friend of mine is in Rome at the moment, he has spoken to Cozzi and has asked him about this new DVD and Cozzi says... it's a bootleg.

I'm afraid so yes... I asked the owner of Retrofilm about the rumor and he replied in a sarcastic tone that he didn't care if Tony (from xploited cinema) would sell it or not, cause the DVD would sell anyway regardless of what people would think.

So in other words he evaded the question which IMO tells me enough, ah well at least it's a decent looking bootleg release.

Cozzi also told my friend that he's seen a fully uncut print. So it's not like it would be impossible for a legit company (with enough dough) to put out a version without inserts from VHS.

Oh, and he also said Argento's new film is bombing.

Re: Four Flies On Grey Velvet

It's most definitely a bootleg, not wishing to generalise or taint the few legit German companies there are, it's not uncommon for some producers there to not give two hoots about licensing agreements. When pursuing a decent print of Four Flies for German release a few years back I was assured a licensing agreement was in hand but all went quiet when I asked for sight of it. Does anyone really believe that a small company can pick up rights for the German territory when no one else on the planet can sort through the legal mish mash for this one! Amazing how many genre movies are so easily (cough) ‘licensed’ for the German market?!
