Re: Galaxy Of Terror & Forbidden World Ready For Pre-Order!

MUTANT was rife with issues. I'm not sure if I would have noticed pixelization.

It was the only master in existance. It was not great and it probably caused the pixelation because the disc was not full... there was plenty of space on the disc.
As i said before, if this was going to sell 100,000 copies, i would have tried to get the only surviving print from UCLA and do a new transfer, but i'm sorry guys, that wasn't going to happen. We spent over 15K making the theatrical version look as good as it does considering the elements were not in good shape.
There was no way to do the same to the other version.
I suppose i should have left it off.

Re: Galaxy Of Terror & Forbidden World Ready For Pre-Order!

FORBIDDEN WORLD is a great release and I have no complaints because I knew what to expect going in. My only beef with S!F is that they left the trailer off GAMERA VS. BARUGON, and AFAIK they don't appear to be including the trailers with any of the future Gamera releases. I hope I'm wrong.

Cliff, I hope you don't let the grumblings of a few people keep you from doing something similar for a future title. Everyone would agree that it's better to have it than not. Holzman's displeasure with the theatrical cut was the most intriguing part of the interviews so it was nice to see exactly what he was talking about. And I appreciated that his commentary was on that version as that gave me extra incentive to watch it. It would have been nice to have it fully restored, but I doubt anyone believes the changes were significant enough to warrant the extra expense. IMO it didn't change the tone of the film or fix any problems.

I appreciate the attention and thought you guys are giving to these Corman titles. Thanks

Ummm, I wasn't grumblimg...just wondering about something. I prefer the theatrical cut anyway. But thanks for including the Mutant version...

I do have the right to inquire if something is amiss, don't I?

No. It was a bonus feature and people need to understand that. No one ever said the Mutant cut would have pristine AV quality like the main feature. I'm just thankful that this alternate cut was included as an extra. Shout! has done an amazing job on these Corman releases and we really couldn't ask for more.

Re: Galaxy Of Terror & Forbidden World Ready For Pre-Order!

I'm gonna tackle FORBIDDEN WORLD this Saturday, but first I put on all the behind-the-scenes stuff last night, and I learned two things: 1). I could never work in the film business because their hours are hellish. I need a lot of sleep, otherwise I'm useless, and most of those Special Effects guys worked hours that would have had me crying on my knees. John Carl Beuchler's reminiscences were fun, even though he stated his time on Forbidden World was a gray haze. 2). Even though I still haven't seen the flick yet, I can already tell you it holds up. The scenes they showed gave me total recall and I'm seriously psyched to watch it.

I liked Jesse Vint's memories of that dude (name escapes me at the moment) in his gore make-up taking a seat at the bus stop and scaring the hell out of the approaching bus driver. That killed me. I remember on the extra features of NEAR DARK, Bill Paxton did a similar thing after he was made up, too.

Interesting that Corman couldn't recall why they changed the name of the movie, other than the fact that it may have tested better. I have never been a fan of directors putting their flicks through a test screening, and then altering it based on the results. That's a good way to guarantee a flop, in my book, and I wonder how many movies in film history that have been fucked up due to that process?

I loved the photo gallery and publicity shots. Oh, and, Cliff, I'm glad you included the MUTANT cut, if you hadn't, fans would have been grumbling about that. I know I would have. Okay, that's my two cents, so far . . .

What I've seen thus far, I personally, think Dawn Dunlap is the hotter chick of the flick. I mean, June's hot, too, but Dawn's got something that catches my eye more than June.

Yeah, no contest there. Dawn Dunlap was one of the cutest eighties ladies. I'll always think of June Chadwick as Jeanine from Spinal Tap.

IMO it’s like comparing an orange Ferrari to a red one. I thought the sexiest scene in the film was Dawn’s sauna. That said I think June was sexier when the jumpsuits were on. I really love the butt shot as she walks down the hall and the “looking for trouble” scene outside her stateroom.

June will always be "That Chick From V" for me. Along with Jane Badler, another, "That Chick From V."

This sounds like something we might be in agreement on, but, since I haven't actually seen the flick yet, I can't say for sure. My opinion thus far is based on the scenes shown in the featurettes and doc. It's looking highly probably, however, that I'm gonna be leaning in the direction you just stated. Can't wait to find out.

Re: Galaxy Of Terror & Forbidden World Ready For Pre-Order!

Dawn IS definitely the sexiest. Seeing her nude was the cherry on the cake.

I loved Forbidden World. Goriffic and sleazier than hell. Everything about this movie hit me the right way. Tits, gore, alien-ripoff monster, random sex, and a badass synth score. I havent finished the documentary yet but what I saw of it I loved. The stories and reminiscing are a blast to hear and really makes you appreciate the film even more.

Cliff, you and everyone at Shout! and Red Shirt Pictures are amazing. I cannot thank you enough. Everytime I get a Corman Blu or DVD in the mail it is like Christmas. You have my undying gratitude and $$ for every Corman release.

I definately would say you did the best you could with what you had there, Cliff. While the "Mutant" cut is certainly a video-sourced element, it didn't look at all bad to me. And as an "extra bonus", I consider it to be just that and I'll take it for what it's worth. And hey, the "Forbidden World" theatrical cut looks excellent A/V wise; great job restoring it to it's gruesome glory.

Keep up the good work.

Speaking of Jessie Vint....Cliff is there any chance the little known Black Oak Conspiracy will get a dvd release?
