My guess is this - the average person is not going to buy these films, and surely those of us into the films don't number enough to make a cool profit. So what do you do? Create a toy that will catch the eye of your average Joe. He figures, "Hell, I get two films and a stupid toy too? I'm in!" Or perhaps there are serious toy collectors who will buy the set just to have the collectable. Either way, it seems like a smart marketing decision that likely helped them to sell films that are otherwise hard to sell. And whatever keeps companies like this afloat is fine by me. We all love to bitch and moan, but the next thing we'll be bitching about is that they no longer exist because they simply can't make money off of obscure genre films.

In a sense, you do have a point in what you´re saying. However, I know quite a bit of "average joes" (ie. my friends) and they all scoff at it where it stands on my shelf. -"What the fuck are you gonna do with that shit?", is the standard remark followed by a snide smile. That´s just a fraction of the "average joe" demographic but it gives you a hint.

anybody has any word or review of their new releases "Open Letter to the Evening News" or "Roma Citta Libera"? No one seem to even mentioned these were out. Are they good thrillers?

Perhaps following the sucessful ABUK strategy would be better - releasing the films in fancy packed sets, and in conventional digi-packs, then you get the exciting eye catching designs, but people can just get a standard digi-pack if they want.

Re: NoShame-A-GoGo! (Mild Nudity)

At the FYE where I work, I ordered in 6 KILLER QUEEN box sets and they sold in less than a week. To college kids. EMO COLLEGE KIDS. Which I thought was weird.
Then last week, a guy came in looking for some 'sick horror movie with lots of naked women and some whipping'. Turns out he was looking for EVELYN. So I show him the boxed set and he double-takes, shakes his head, and puts it down remarking that 'this damn thing's got a toy with it!' So I explain to him the figure is a collectible and that all the sets come with it. I explain everything about my new, little, plastic friend that's eyeing me right now from the comfort of my DVD rack, but he still doesn't get it. 'How can they package titty-movies with a goddamn toy? I ain't buying that!' And with that, POOF!, he's gone.

Don't know which is worse, calling them titty-movies or calling it just a goddamn toy. I personally LOVE the packaging for the KILLER QUEEN set and LOVE the fact that they decided to include such a weird pack-in. Can you imagine if Criterion did this?

My little Red Queen would sit right next to a little Toshiro Mifune figure... Ahh, we all have dreams.

To play devil's advocate for a second, I agree with your customer about the "goddamn toy", to a certain extent at least. While it wouldn't stop me buying the set, I'd eBay the thing immediately.

I have absolutely no interest in toy collectables such as this and consider them to be nerdy in the extreme. I appreciate many will 'flame' me for these comments, but that's just how I see it. 'Flame' away...!

I do wonder, though, if it's any nerdier than meeting on an internet forum to discuss obscure films. And what exactly is wrong with nerdy?

There's nowt wrong with being nerdy! While writing my above post I was thinking about that, but horror toys just make me want to run a mile. Nothing personal guys.
