'eyes of Cristal' (2004)?

Can anyone comment on this recent Italian gaillo. Is it any good? Do these contemporary Italian takes on their hallowed genre come up alright, or do they come up as generic/global/Lion's Gate/post-7even retarded dreck that makes you wanna crack Harry Knowles in his fat fucken jaw?

Looks pretty interesting, hope an English subbed copy comes out soon. I've never been a big giallo fan, but a modern take on the demi-genre could be good viewing.

UK R2 is released today on the frightfest label. Should be a decent disc if it is anything like their release of "Malefique" from last year.

I've got the UK release on order as well. Hopefully I'll be able to comment on the quality later in the week.

Re: 'eyes of Cristal' (2004)?

after getting sort of tired of watching so many classics i felt i need to update my education so i ordered three latest italian efforts with the result of one above average entry, infascelli´s Almost Blue, and two missed opportunities, two failed projects that should have been something else, stivaletti´s 3 Faces of Horror is plain ugly -most annoying closing shot EVER-, and Eyes of Crystal goes nowhere beyond what have become corny cliches, blurred images of peoples heads frantically shaking, fragmented flashbacks involving nuns and orphans, yes everything is tired, even the nice gore touches add nothing in the end, on a strictly personal level that many spanish actors involved did not help me to get in the mood, specially carmelo gomez who i dislike with a passion

Re: 'eyes of Cristal' (2004)?

I watched this last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's an extremely accomplished film, very dark and very modern; in purely aesthetic terms it actually reminded me of Jaume Balaguero's films.

As for the UK disk, the picture quality is excellent but the cover is the worst I've seen in a long time.

just exactly my problem with the movie, its lack of a new personality behind its dark modern images

.
Now this makes me really want to see this. I'm waiting for it to arrive in a couple of days. I'll probably chime in again with some choice words after I've seen it.

Sergio Olivari sounds like a hoity-toity film critic moon-lighting as an Italian from the Canary Islands.

I TOTALLY AGREE!!

i must say that i'm quite disappointed by the film, probably because i was expecting too much!

the cinematography and the music are well done and moody, but that's all!

the screenplay and the characters are so tired, and the whole film and its style is a rip-off "seven",Balaguero's films and even Mulcahy's "resurrection".

in my opinion, some late Argento's thrillers like "the card player,"the Stendhal syndrome","do you like Hitchcock?" and "non ho sonno" are more enjoyable and interesting than "eyes of cristal".
